DREADLINK: Zero One: CD

The debut ten song album from this German band that has been together since 2009.

These five guys have put out an album of thrash, and death metal mixed with some down tuned metal parts and I also hear some of the heavier sounding bands from the mid 90s mixed in. They really have a mix of a lot of different things going on, some work, some don’t, like the guitar work has some great riffs and leads by both Jannes and Brüggi on rhythm guitar, the pounding bass guitar by Hermy, the thundering drums of Mossa, with a lot of cymbals crashing away, and Raffa’s growling vocals mixed with some cleaner vocals were good, but the band just seems like it’s playing kind of retro 90s too often for me. The angst metal with breakdowns and the growling vocals does work; it just gets to be a bit too strained in places and grows tiresome.

The band aren’t bad players, just with this being their debut, I hope that they mature a bit musically and find more of their own sound. The production is good and the album isn’t totally without its charms, but they just need some more time to develop.
