BLOWFUSE: Into The Spiral: CD

Starting in Barcelona, Spain around 2008, originally known as Godfarts, and re-named in 2013 as Blowfuse, they have released two studio albums of punk rock. Influenced by ’80s and ’90s punk rock, hardcore, the skateboard lifestyle, and interesting lyrics, Blowfuse crafts a style all its own.

This album is chock full of ripping guitar licks, throbbing bass lines, pounding drums and snotty, but angry vocals that perfectly suit the awesome noise created by these guys. You get woah-ohs, gang vocals, and enough energy to light up a city, but luckily it is punk rock, not shitty emo, pop punk crap that sounds tired, these guys rip one fast tune out after another and keep you pumped up the entire time. Twelve killer songs including the short intro and not one second is wasted or given to fluff, they managed to hit the target on every track. I really liked “Break,” “Trouble,” “Ripping Out,” “New Approach,” “Where’re You Jimmy?,” and “Mr Dogshit,” but I’m sure that you will find your own favorite songs on here.

A great album that just grabs you as soon as you hit play and just gets better the more that you listen to it. I really need to pay attention to these guys and grab their music as soon as it comes out.

xMOMOx: Stop Time And Break Out: 7″

Stop Time And Break Out cover art

xMOMOx is a Hardcore-Band from Germany, founded in 2010 by some former members of xBREED APARTx. All members of the band are vegan and straight edge.

This is some thick, angry and heavy hardcore mixed with metal that wipes clean the horizon. Where these guys go, nothing will grow, they just are a devastating force of nature that you need to hear to believe. They say that one of their major influences is CHOKEHOLD and since I’ve seen them live years ago, I can say that these guys have taken that influence to heart.

Three songs that are incredible and brutal and need to be heard to believe.

MY TURN: Dead Weight: 7”

Dead Weight 7" cover art

This hardcore band based in Athens, Greece has been together since the summer of 2010. They’ve had a few singles and an album out before this and this shows them getting tighter and better than ever.

The band just blazes on these four songs, one hitting as hard as the next, knocking you back and kicking your ass. You can hear the anger and feel the energy in these songs as soon as the first note hits. Shouted vocals, blistering guitar playing, and the bass and drums combining to give the songs a nice thickness propel this single into the realm of contained insanity.

The band just reaches out and demands your attention from start to finish. These guys devastate the weaker bands that pretend to be punk / hardcore.

GRIM GOAT: Fear Keeps Us Small: 12″

Fear Keeps Us Small cover art

GRIM GOAT is a four man band from Münster, Germany that do hardcore, mixed with punk rock melody. After the releases of their demo For Your Life, the LP Answers Follow From Questions, and tons of shows with national and international bands, they went back into the studio to lay down the heavy tracks we have on here.

Some no-frills hardcore with melodic parts that come in all the right places and it’s go-go-go with no chance of taking the foot off the accelerator. With the gruff vocals shouted at you, the crushing sound that the band puts forth and the great lyrics, this is the kind of stuff that should be on your playlist, not that over-hyped crap passed off as punk / hardcore. These guys burn through these songs and make you want to hear more and more.

Seeing these guys live would probably be incredible, but for now, this will have to do and I loved every second of it…if only they would play around where I live…sigh.

CONTRASTS is a five piece hardcore band from Munich, Germany, founded early 2012 by former members of CLOSELINE and WITH OPEN ARMS. The band released a demo tape in October 2012 followed by this five song debut EP.

The EP is powerful hardcore with strong grooves, some metal and punk riffs mixed together. This has a wonderful raw energy that makes the five tracks never boring or contrived. Gruff vocals give the songs a nice angry edge and makes you want to turn this up as loud as possible and slam dance in your room.

The five songs are tight, full of energy and make you want to hear more, what more can you ask for? Go out and grab this one today!

VENGEANCE TODAY: Dude, You Just Ruined The Show: 12″

Dude, You Just Ruined The Show. cover art

VENGEANCE TODAY is a four piece hc/punk outfit from Dresden-Chemnitz-Area, Germany that started playing shows in 2008. After releasing demos in the past, they finally got around to releasing their debut album.

Starting off with a lot of feedback, the album kicks off with the meaty and heavy “Purpose” giving us a taste of the insane energy and devastation ahead. The band plays hard, angry and with intelligent lyrics that will rattle your speakers and shatter windows. Song after song of screamed / shouted vocals with blistering leads, thundering bass and drumming give rise to an album that will get the pits swirling and the skaters thrashing like mad. These ten tracks hit hard and really get the blood pumping and make you want to grab a skateboard. Not one second is wasted on this album and the intensity never lags, it just comes at you like a fully loaded eighteen wheeler with no brakes coming down a hill at you.

This is one awesome collection of songs that will get blasted while I’m driving to work to get me pumped up for my crappy job and when I leave work to release the frustration of the night. Grab this one today and let their energy inspire you to get crazy.

GHOSTWRITER / ABYSS A.D.: Split: 7″

cover_front

A two band split of hardcore bands from Germany. ABYSS A.D. from Munich formed in mid 2011, and GHOSTWRITER was founded in autumn 2010 in the surrounding regions of Berlin.

GHOSTWRITER starts off the aural assault with “Anxiety”, a track that has huge riffs and is super heavy. Shouted, but clear vocals, pummeling drums and deep bass made this a great start to the split. “Rotations” has a fantastic instrumental opening that goes on for more than half the song, then the vocals kick in and take the song up a few notches and make it even heavier. ABYSS A.D. starts off with “Reap And Sow” and its change from a fast almost thrash song, then going into a slower mosh part that is fantastic. “Dark Seducer” which closes off the split is a raging song that is heavy and has another great mosh part.

Both bands have the power and energy to get the pits going crazy and are different enough to stand out from each other. Both have their hardcore mixed with metal, but it just adds to the anger and maelstrom that they both created on this split.
