BARBE-Q-BARBIES are a quintet of females from Finland that play full throttle rock with a hard and alternative / new rock edge and a lot of attitude. Ekkis and Kaisa the guitarists, Minttu on bass, Niki on vocals and Niina on drums have released their sophomore album of eleven tracks that will get you moving.
“Crashing Down” is the first song and it has a killer groove that gets your foot tapping and makes you want to get up and dance. The guitar licks are nice and juicy, the slightly hard-edged vocals add some extra energy to the track, the bass gets the groove going and the crashing drums are nice and tight. “One More (And I’ll Be Gone)” is a more mid-paced rocker, but any song about drinking always gets a rave from me, and “Whole Lotta You” has a groove that is infectious, catchy, great playing and one of my favorites on the album. “Breaking All The Rules” has great background vocals, impassioned lead vocals, the dual guitar attack coming at you, the fantastic drumming and sweet bass guitar playing, “STFU” is such a great song, it puts a smile on my face whenever I listen to it, it has power, energy, great lyrics and some of the most groove-tastic sounds that I’ve heard in a long time. This band has a great mix of hard-edged rock mixed with pop sensibilities that should be all over the radio, if radio cared about real music anymore that is. Great playing and the clear production gives everyone the ability to shine on this album. “Love Machine”, “Can’t Get What You’re Looking For”, and “Friday” were all on repeat when I was listening to this album.
BARBE-Q-BARBIES have created an album that is packed full of fun songs that are catchy with memorable choruses and played with energy. This album will definitely get your foot tapping, your head bobbing and you singing along every single time you play it.
