SERPENT: Fear: CD

Front Cover Final

Serpent are a young thrash band from the town of Cookstown in Ireland and have released their debut four song EP on their own.

This very young in age band really impressed me with this EP and the tight musicianship that they possess. “Myriad Truths” starts off the festivities and the guitar playing grabs you as soon as you hit play, the drums come in and then the low vocals start, and then the whole band is going along in a nice chugging groove until they crank up the speed and away we go. The vocals come in again and now they are clean and clear, the band just rips on this track. “Fear” has some nice deep and heavy bass, some guitar leads that will get you playing the air guitar along with them, great vocals that make the chorus stand out, and you can hear the drummer just carrying that beat nice and steady, “Envenomation” starts off with a nice old school thrash sound from the guitar which is super chunky sounding, then halfway through you get a bit of a drum and bass guitar break, then it’s back to the crunch of the guitar solo, and “Parasite’s Eve” is a complete rage from the start, bringing to mind SLAYER in the power that SERPENT unlock from themselves. Major props go out to Oran McGuckin on bass/lead vocals, Connla Mullan on lead guitar/backing vocals, Charlie Farrell on drums, and Graham McKinstry on lead guitar because they played like seasoned pros on here.

This was a total kick ass EP and it really surprised the hell out of me that these guys had this much talent and the chops to carry this off. With some time and exposure, these guys will be playing some nice sized venues and will hopefully get the recognition that they deserve. Get this EP and show them some love because I loved listening to this release.
