SHAKRA: Powerplay: CD

Shakra- PowerPlay cover

This Swiss hard rock band has been around since 1997 and has gone through two other vocalists before settling on John Prakesh on 2011’s Back On Track album, and now on their new album Powerplay.

The album starts off with a kick with the song “Life Is Now” with its catchy chorus and power chords aplenty. This really gets the blood pumping and sets the mood for the rest of the album. The band really gets down to playing solid hard rock, the kind that was popular in the 1980s and sadly isn’t on the radar of most people anymore, but these guys could stand proud with bands like CONEY HATCH, BON JOVI and others that played hook laden rock music back then. You of course do get the obligatory ballads that are played with feeling and integrity, “Wonderful Life” and “Too Good To Be True”. “Wonderful Life” reminded me a bit of DEF LEPPARD’s song “Now” with similar vocals and playing, but was still a good ballad in its own right.

The band kicks ass on the fast songs and you will be rocking out on those ones and singing along to the catchy choruses, air guitaring and having a great time listening to this album. The band has great leads that draw you in, bass that is fluid, drums that bring your feet tapping along and the soaring vocals are perfect, clear, strong and melodic. Definitely an album to throw on in the car, crank it up and sing along to.
